2024/25 REP TRYOUT POLICY

NOTE:  By remitting payment of the $75.00 tryout fee, you acknowledge that you have read, fully understand, and agree to all terms of the SCFHA tryout policy.

All players seeking to play on a SCFHA Rep team for the 2024-2025 season must register for tryouts through RAMP and pay the $75.00 tryout fee before the first tryout.  The tryout registration link can be found on our SCFHA website. Tryout fees are to be paid to the SCFHA electronically through the RAMP Registration System.  This fee is a one-time payment of $75 which covers all tryouts.  Only those players that are in good financial standing with the SCFHA will be permitted to attend tryouts.  This includes money owing to the SCFHA or any SCFHA team.  Tryout fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and will not be returned if the player decides not to tryout for a SCHFA Rep Team.

Each player will be given a tryout number at their first tryout.  The association will post on the website after each tryout which players are invited to return to that team’s next tryout.  Players will be able to determine their status by checking to see if their number shows on the list posted online.  The player’s tryout number will remain the same through the entire tryout process.

All players selected for a SCFHA Rep team will be required to pay a NON-REFUNDABLE $500.00 deposit that will be emailed directly to each player.

All players coming from another association will require a “Permission to Skate” form from their association.  No player will be allowed to try out for a SCFHA team without the Permission to Skate.  There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

Minimum Tryout Requirements

U9

To encourage development, ALL U9 players are required to try out for the highest U9 team listed.

U11
ALL U11 age players are encouraged to try out for the highest U11 team listed.  This rule applies to all players moving up from U9 and all players remaining in U11.

U13/U15
For players staying in the same division, they can try out for at least one level above the team they are currently playing on.
For example: A minor player currently playing on U13 BB can try out for U13 A.  Also, a minor player currently playing U13B can try out for U13A if desired but it is not required.

For players moving up a division they are encouraged to try out for at least the same level as what they are currently playing. For example: A major player currently playing U13 A can try out for U15 A.

An exception may be granted by the Executive. Please email requests to [email protected].  The deadline for requesting an exception is April 14th, 2024.

U18
The minimum tryout requirement does not apply to players returning to or moving up to U18.

Please note that all U18AA, 15AA and U13AA player selections have been made for the 2024/25 season.

Tryout Eligibility
We encourage all players to play for the teams and level they are selected for.  If a player attends the appropriate tryouts and declines a spot offered on the team, an exception to this may be granted by the SCFHA on a case-by-case basis.

Please email requests to [email protected].

If a Coach offers a position to a player prior to the completion of the team’s tryouts it is at their discretion whether the player continues to participate in the remaining tryouts.

*Absences from a single tryout may be permitted at the discretion of the Head Coach of the team the tryout relates to or the Rep Director.   Missing a SCFHA tryout to attend tryouts for other Associations will not be considered valid by the SCFHA. Please send notification via email to the head coach directly or to the SCFHA ([email protected]) office.  Please send this notification as early as possible allowing the coach to make an informed decision regarding the player and tryout prior to the skate.

Playing Above Your Age Level

Players may only tryout for a higher age group after receiving approval from the Rep Director.  The underage player must be successful in making the first team in the higher division to be able to play in that division.  The deadline for a request is April 14th, 2024.  Exceptions may be made for goalies to play at other levels in a higher division.  This will depend on the goalie’s ability to compete in the higher division (to be determined by evaluation) and the number of appropriate aged goalies in the higher division.  These requests should be received by April 14th, 2024, and will be looked at on a case-by-case basis by the SCFHA.  Please email requests to [email protected].

Injured Players
An injured player that will miss tryouts due to an injury but wishes to be considered for a team will pay the applicable tryout fee and register with the other players.  The player must supply a Doctor’s note attesting to the injury. The Doctor’s note must be submitted to the SCFHA office PRIOR to the first tryout for the player’s age division.  Please email requests to [email protected].

An injured player does not have to skate during tryouts to be placed on a SCFHA team.  It is the Coach’s discretion with input from the executive committee and previous year’s coaching staff.

Evaluations
Head Coaches are expected to evaluate eligible players for next season from the time of their appointment until the completion of tryouts. Evaluation would include watching eligible players play/practice and reviewing feedback from current Head and Assistant Coaches. The tryouts are the end of the assessment process. Head Coaches may offer spots to players prior to the tryouts. By the commencement of the first tryout, Head Coaches will publicize how many spots are available on the team. At the tryouts, Head Coaches will have the support of an appointed impartial Player Selection Committee. The final choice will rest with the Head Coach, but input will be provided by the Player Selection Committee.

Team Composition

The SCFHA wants all teams to fill their rosters with 15 Skaters and 2 Goalies.
A Head Coach wishing to play with less than 15 Skaters and 2 Goalies must get approval from the Rep Director.  The Head Coach understands that the team will be required to cover the costs of the roster spots not filled.  Therefore, if the player registration fees for a team are $1500.00 and the total for 17 players is $25500.00 and a coach decides to only take 13 Skaters and 2 Goalies the total of $25500.00 will be divided by 15 and each player will have to pay $1700.00.  It will be the Head Coach’s responsibility to explain their decision to the Executive and Parents of their team.  If a Head Coach decides to take more than 15 Skaters and 2 Goalies all players will be required to pay the full registration fee for the season.  There will not be a discounted rate for taking more players. This must get approval from the Rep Director.
