SCFHA DEVELOPMENT STREAM (DS) PROGRAM
The Development Stream (DS) program is an exciting initiative created by the Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) to give House League players an opportunity for extra development, instruction, and competition while maintaining their participation in the House League. This program is ideal for players who want to enhance their skills, play at a slightly higher competitive level, and gain more ice time without committing to a full Rep (travel) team.
WHAT IS THE DS PROGRAM?
✅ Extra Development & Training – Players receive additional coaching and skill-building sessions.
✅ Higher Level of Competition – Teams play exhibition games and participate in tournaments against other DS teams.
✅ Flexible Commitment – DS players continue to play for their House League teams while enjoying extra hockey opportunities.
✅ No Full-Time Rep Commitment – DS is a great stepping stone for players considering Rep hockey in the future.
WHO CAN JOIN?
🏒 House League players & goaltenders in the U11, U13, U15, and U18 divisions are invited to try out.
🏒 Players must be registered in House League to be eligible for DS.
🏒 There will be one DS team per age division, pending sufficient player interest and approval by the OWHA.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
🔹 Tryouts – Held in November (schedule to be announced).
🔹 Team Selection – Teams will be finalized by December.
🔹 Additional Ice Time – Teams will have an extra 10–15 practices, games, and tournaments throughout the season.
🔹 Competition & Tournaments – DS teams will participate in exhibition games and OWHA-sanctioned tournaments.
🔹 Season Timeline – The program starts in Fall 2024 and runs through the remainder of the House League season.
DS teams may participate in games/tournaments during Christmas, March Break, and Easter weekend, providing additional development opportunities for players.
