WELCOME TO SCFHA REP HOCKEY
SCFHA Rep Hockey Program: Competitive Girls Hockey
The St. Catharines Female Hockey Association (SCFHA) Rep Hockey Program offers a highly competitive and development-focused stream of girls hockey. Teams are formed annually through a tryout process, and players selected to compete at the Rep level represent St. Catharines in leagues and tournaments across Ontario.
SCFHA Rep Program Overview
The SCFHA Rep program features teams from U9 to U22A, providing a structured development pathway for young female athletes. Each year, approximately 17 teams represent our league at various levels and age groups, showcasing talent, dedication, and passion for the sport.
Competitive Levels in Women’s Rep Hockey
Rep hockey is categorized by both age and skill level, ensuring players are matched with appropriate competition to support their development:
Skill Levels (from highest to lowest)
- AA (Elite) – Highest level of competition with advanced training and national exposure opportunities
- A (Highly Competitive) – Strong competitive teams with high-level development
- BB (Competitive Development) – Transitional level between A and B, providing structured competitive play
- B (Competitive Entry Level) – Introductory level to rep hockey with skill-building focus
Age Divisions (youngest to oldest)
- U9 (ages 7-8)
- U11 (ages 9-10)
- U13 (ages 11-12)
- U15 (ages 13-14)
- U18 (ages 15-17)
- U22 (ages 18-21)
Following Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) guidelines, each age group combines two birth years (except for U18, which includes three). For example, a U13 team consists of players aged 11 and 12, while U18 teams feature athletes from ages 15-17.
Rep Coaching & Team Management
- Annual Coaching Selection: Coaches apply for positions and undergo interviews with the SCFHA Selection Committee in November/December for the following season, which starts in April.
- Team Leadership: Each head coach selects their coaching staff, prepares a budget, and develops a season plan tailored to their team's needs.
- Season Structure: The Rep season runs from September to April, with an additional summer development component to enhance skill-building.
