SCFHA House League Program General Information

St. Catharines Female Hockey Association is proud to be part of the fastest growing sport in North America, girls hockey. St. Catharines CYO Minor Hockey introduced the Girls Program in 1995 and has been growing at a steady pace ever since. It was the only hockey league in St. Catharines with seven divisions of play: Novice, Atom, Peewee, Bantam, Midget, Intermediate and Senior Divisions.

In 2008, the Ontario Women's Hockey Association officially sanctioned the merger of the St. Catharines CYO Chaos Rep Hockey Association and the St. Catharines CYO Girls House League to form the St. Catharines Female Hockey Association (SCFHA).  The SCFHA is the only all-female hockey association in St. Catharines and offers both a house league and rep (travel) program for girls aged 4 to 21 years of age.

The SCFHA offers a house league program to girls born in 1999 through 2017 (aged 4 through 21 as of December 31). We also have a Senior Division for players born in 1998 and older that was introduced in the 2018-2019 Hockey Season. The Season begins in late September/early October and culminates in late March with a House League Championship Weekend (Super Sunday) in which all teams participate.

Girls aged 4-6 participate in a "Initiation Program" formerly known as Fundamentals,  which is an introduction to hockey and runs with an emphasis on practice/skill development and mini games starting in November.  All other age categories, except Novice, start games shortly after the start of the season-usually just before our Thanksgiving weekend depending on the year.  Girls with no hockey experience are welcome at any stage in our program but IP/Fundamentals is the perfect introductory program.  Our oldest age category is Senior Division for women aged 22 and older.

House league teams are always on the ice with another team during practices.  There is an attempt to ensure one practice and one game per week for age groups Atom up to and including Bantam (13 and 14 year olds).  Our Midget and Intermediate girls do not practice, but rather play once per week.

Our house league program runs over the weekends mainly with a practice on Saturday and games on Sunday as this is when the SCFHA has the vast majority of its ice--which is allocated to us by the City of St. Catharines.

The goals of the SCFHA Girls Program are as followed:

To have fun while playing hockey and engaging in physical activity.
To learn the basic skills required to play the game of hockey.
To develop an understanding of basic teamwork through participation in a variety of activities and adapted game situations.
To create and refine basic motor patterns.
To be introduced to the concepts of cooperation and fair play.
Play with girls at the same skill level.
There is absolutely no experience necessary to be part of the St. Catharines Female House League Hockey Program.

The SCFHA has a zero tolerance abuse and harassment policy to ensure the safety of all our players and volunteers.  We strive to ensure the girls have a fun and safe atmosphere to play in throughout their career.

The House League begins online registration in May and ends in September. We encourage players to register early and offer discounts to assist with this. The league fills teams after that date. Your registration includes a full slate of games and practices, a jersey you keep, photo, league year end banquet and a season full of FUN.

House League/Travel Loop:  The combination of simple house league hockey with the competitiveness of playing skillful surrounding area teams.  Do not miss this opportunity to have your child meet new friends and build their hockey skills while enjoying the great game of hockey.

The SCFHA is very excited about this hockey season.  Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions below for more specific details.  For Registration please go to our Registration tab for further information regarding registration process, deadlines, fees and payment options.
