SCFHA PARTNERSHIP WITH BROCK UNIVERSITY
The St. Catharines Female Hockey Association (SCFHA) is proud of its longstanding partnership with Brock University Athletics, a collaboration that began in 2013 and continues to thrive. This partnership enhances both organizations by providing valuable opportunities for training, promotion, and shared resources, fostering a strong connection between grassroots and elite-level hockey.
As a result of this collaboration, SCFHA’s competitive/travel rep teams proudly compete under the name Brock Jr. Badgers, wearing the official Brock Athletics colors—navy, red, and white—and featuring the Brock “Badger” logo on their home and away jerseys. House league teams also embrace the Jr. Badgers identity, wearing a specialized "Jr. Badger" logo on their jerseys, further uniting the association under a shared vision of excellence and development. As the largest female hockey association in Niagara, SCFHA continues to provide opportunities for girls and women of all ages to develop their skills, compete at various levels, and foster a lifelong love for the game.
A unique and invaluable aspect of the Jr. Badgers program is its close relationship with the Brock University women’s varsity hockey team, led by head coach Margot Page. Throughout the season, Brock varsity players actively engage with Jr. Badger teams at all levels, attending practices, assisting with drills, and contributing to player development. This initiative not only enhances the skill level of young athletes but also provides them with strong female role models who exemplify dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership.
"From the Jr. Badgers' perspective, our players get to interact with incredible role models at their practices, while our varsity athletes are reminded of why they fell in love with the game," said Page. "Our players truly enjoy working with the younger girls, helping them develop their skills and passion for hockey."
The Brock Badgers women’s hockey team has been competing at the varsity level since 2000 and has a proud history of developing elite athletes. Over the years, the program has produced numerous standout players, including Athletes of the Year Sarah Brooks (2000-01), Kate Allgood (2005-06), and Beth Clause (2010-11), as well as Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) First Team All-Canadian Kelly Walker.
Through its continued partnership with Brock University, the SCFHA remains committed to developing the next generation of female hockey players, providing them with the tools, mentorship, and competitive environment needed to succeed both on and off the ice. Together, the Jr. Badgers and Brock Badgers are building a stronger future for female hockey in St. Catharines and beyond.
